Is this a soft skills program?

Yes, but much more! Students obtain soft skills in addition to the understanding of what they need to do to become successful on the job and satisfy the needs of their employer. The student also obtains self-esteem, team-building, leadership and other interpersonal skills.

 

Who developed the curriculum?

The curriculum was developed by employers from several different businesses and industries.

 

What makes this program better than other curricula that are similar?

That is easy! This program is totally employer driven. If you give employers what they want in an employee, a success is insured.

 

How long has this program been in effect?

We started five years ago developing this program with many business partners. It took two years to develop the curriculum and another two years to pilot the program for quality assurance. We have been operating Work Certified in its’ present form for over one year. Curriculum development for Work Certified will continuously improve to meet employer needs. Feedback from members, instructors, trainers and educators also provide us with information to excel the program.

 

How long does the program take?

Instructors must take a 30 hour course and pass their certification test with a score of 90% or better to become certified. Students must attend a 90 hour course, pass all 50 core competencies and pass their certification exam with a score of 80% or better to become Work Certified. Once we train your instructors you can start your program right away!

 

What selection criteria are used in the Work Certified program to identify the prospective students they think will be successful in this program?

We have found that the program fits all customers; those with a degree, high school or GED students, Career Center customers, adult and youth, juvenile justice participants, elderly and more. The program does require an 8th grade English reading ability.
